Historical Fiction can breathe life  into what students may have considered irrelevant and dull, thus allowing them to see that their present is part of a living past, that people as real as themselves struggled with problems similar to their own, and that today's way of life result of what these people did in finding solutions.
Historical Fiction must, of course, be set in the past. The main characters generally are fictional, though often they rub shoulders with historically prominent people. Sometimes the story's focus is not on events in history but rather on a wholly imaginary plot that is accurately set in a particular period and place from the past.
